Thanksgiving

This is our first experience of the Thanksgiving holiday. At home we don’t really celebrate this particular day but we know it’s one of the important days in the American calendar, a time when the family will gather together and share in the good times and be thankful for all the blessings they have received.

As a couple we have so much to be thankful for. We have been truly very blessed and are so very grateful for all the kindness, help and generosity we have been given.

It has been such a joy to experience so much as we travel around the US, the country is very beautiful and scenic but even more than that the people we have met have been so super friendly and welcoming to us.

One of our recent hosts, told us she was a “giver” and it made her happy to give. Thinking about this I found it interesting, by our actions we can give joy to others, but unlike a material object that we have in only a finite quantity, joy is something that actually increases in us the more we give it away. The more joy we give away, the more we have in ourselves.

We have experienced that. It has been a joy to share and experience our travel and I know we have given joy with our simple presence just as we have received it.

One Sunday morning in Oregon, we attended church with our host there. The pastor at the church introduced us to the congregation during the service and also mentioned us in his prayer. We were included in the request for prayer support. After the service one lady came up to us to chat and asked us,

“do you have any family in the US?”

“No” I replied “But we are finding family along the way”

That’s so often how we feel. When we are welcomed into a strangers home, when we are given a meal, when we receive blessings and well wishes we feel that we are at home amongst people that love us. With people that are our family.

Thanksgiving is a time to be with family and to be thankful for all that we have. We are with family, we are happy and we are blessed.

We are very thankful.

To our family here in America and back home, to all of our friends, new and old, Thank you.

Thank you to you all, we love you.
